Description of Rail&Fly

ORENAIR together with Deutsche Bahn offers you combined air and railway journey. This unique offer is called Rail&Fly.

Rail&Fly is a fast and stress-free way to travel straight to the airport.

Buying a ticket for a combined journey you pay both for a flight from/to Germany and a railway trip by Deutsche Bahn trains from/to the German airport within Germany (more than 5600 DB railway stations) as well as to/from the railway stations Basel - Badischer Bahnhof (Switzerland) and Salzburg (Austria).

Rail&Fly is available in combination with all scheduled ORENAIR flights from/to Germany.

Types of trains available within Rail&Fly:

Product class ICE

The Intercity-Express (ICE) is the fastest and most comfortable way to travel on the DB network, reaching speeds of up to 300 km/h and new standards of excellence.

The Intercity-Express Sprinter (ICE Sprinter) offers practically non-stop connections between major German cities (reservations are compulsory and additional supplement will apply).

Product class B

Intercity and Eurocity (IC and EC) trains connect major cities, reaching speeds of 200 km/h. Both Intercity and Eurocity trains run frequently, either every hour or two hours depending on the destination.

Night trains: EuroNight (EN), D-Nacht and The City Night Line (CNL) are the long-journey trains running during the nighttime. CNL requires reservations and additional supplements depending on the type of seat you choose: a regular seat, a couchette or a comfortable sleeper.

Product class C

Interregio-Express (IRE) travels at regular intervals and connects towns and regional centers. It is the "fast train" which turns Deutsche Bahn’s intercity and local transport into one system.

Regional-Express (RE) connects cities and offers travel in comfortable modern trains. It leaves at regular intervals and links local to long-distance trains.

Regionalbahn (RB) offers a basic service from all local stations. It provides the connection between the regions and city centers. It also connects to the Regional-Express.

S-Bahn services high-density areas, leaving in quick, regular intervals. Some S-Bahn stations have access to longer distance regional trains, making travel within the city and between cities a breeze.

Attention!
Pay attention to the types of trains performing connection journeys to the destination point; railway journeys within Rail&Fly are valid only on above mentioned types of trains.

Rail&Fly includes railway travel on all DB trains except:

  • DB Autozug, excursion, special charter or Thalys trains on national or international routes, or on international CNL, TGV, Railjet trains;
  • non-Federal railway lines or sea routes;
  • journeys on routes inside a transport association (departure and destination station within the area of validity of a transport association tariff). However, the foregoing exclusion does not apply to the transfer routes defined here (PDF document, 197 Kb).
