How to buy a ticket

You may buy the combined Rail&Fly journey at the air ticket agency/travel agency where an agent makes reservation for the air and railway journey and gives you your personal Pickup Number for the railway ticket Rail&Fly.

You need to print your railway ticket prior to the train journey. You can print your ticket online or using DB long-distance vending machines which can be found in the majority of railway stations/airports in Germany. Information about the location of vending machines is stated on the Deutsche Bahn website.

Arriving on time

The time stated to/from German Railway in your itinerary is hypothetical. You can find the correct train timetable at DB Travel Centre, DB-licensed travel agency or on the Deutsche Bahn website. You are to select trains to the booked flights so as to ensure that they reach the departure airport at least three hours before the scheduled departure time/ check-in deadline.

How to pick up a railway ticket Rail&Fly

You can print out your railway ticket not earlier than 72 hours before train departure.

For your convenience there are two options of picking up a railway ticket Rail&Fly:

  • online;
  • DB long-distance vending machine.

For return travel you can choose another printing option different from the outgoing travel. After you use one of the offered options, another one will automatically become unavailable.

Print out railway ticket online

Railway ticket can be printed online only using your computer; it cannot be printed in DB Travel Center. To print railway ticket online please follow the steps:

  • Enter website;
  • Fill in your name and your E-ticket number or PNR Locator;
  • Select a passenger;
  • Check the information;
  • Select a preferred pick up option for online ticket: railway ticket will be sent to your e-mail or will be opened in browser;
  • Print out the ticket.

If you have found incorrect data in your railway ticket, you need to contact air ticket agency/travel agency, where a ticket for a combined journey was originally booked and issued. In this case you cannot print such ticket at DB Travel Center.

If you have lost your online ticket, you need to log in again and print your ticket.

Print out railway ticket using DB long-distance vending machine

Before getting on the train you need to enter your Pickup Number in one of the vending machines located at the railway stations/airports and print out a railway ticket.

You can choose between different languages (e.g. German, English, Spanish and French). In the start mask you should press the button "All offers – ticket collection" then touch the button marked "Rail&Fly" until you can enter your Pickup Number.

In case of round trip journey, an agent should give you two personal Pickup Numbers, one for each direction.

Each passenger is given a personal Pickup Number.

Since you have already paid a ticket for the whole journey you will not get charged at the vending machine.

Please follow the procedure (PDF document, 496 Kb).

Problems with vending machines

If there are no vending machines for the long-journey trains at the station you should buy a ticket to the nearest station with a vending machine, where you may print out the railway ticket Rail&Fly and start your journey. A list of stations is available on the Deutsche Bahn website.

If you have difficulties with the use of vending machines you can obtain detailed explanation of each step of the process by pressing the button marked «Help» or ask DB service staff for assistance.

If you failed to print out the railway ticket Rail&Fly because:

  • vending machine does not recognize the Pickup Number you enter;
  • all vending machines at the station are out of order.

You may ask DB service staff for assistance or take the train without a ticket having informed the train attendant about the technical problem occurred and tell him your personal Pickup Number. The train attendant will give you a document (so called "Fahrpreisnacherhebung") confirming subsequent fare collection for use as a substitute ticket, and note the Pickup Number on that document.

After your flight please contact your ticket agency/travel agent for refund of the amount paid for the document (the “Fahrpreisnacherhebung”) you received from the train attendant and provide the agent with the following documents:

  • document (Fahrpreisnacherhebung) confirming subsequent fare collection, issued by the train attendant;
  • personal Pickup Number;
  • itinerary receipt.

Refund may take several weeks.
